Finale to Spring Break

So this project was probably the easier and most beneficial I have ever undertaken.  I am so excited to see it in all it’s glory in just a few months.

I have the misfortune of living in a part of Southern California where water is at a scarcity and is costly.  So an outdoor garden has been more of a dream than a reality in recent years.  While I certainly have plenty of land, my pocketbook is not so deep.

So I was grateful to be presented with the idea of a pallet garden.  Not only that, but the whole project took less than an hour, from start to finish.

Here’s what you’ll need.

• 4-8 pallets
• potting soil
• weed barrier fabric
• Plantings or seeds

 

We started by placing 2 pallets on the ground as a raised base.  If you want them higher, use more pallets. Then we covered the bottom of our planter pallets with weed fabric barrier that we picked up for $8 at Home Depot.

 

Once the planter pallet bottoms were covered in fabric, we placed them on the base pallets and filled the slats and centers with potting soil.

Then the plantings and seeds went in according to height.

And lastly, a good soaking and we now have a salad garden complete with corn, tomatoes, bell peppers, green beans, butternut and acorn squash, zucchini, bell peppers, and spinach.

  

Not only does the weed barrier and pallet cut down on water and erosion, but the critters and pets can’t damage the garden and there is no need to weed.  Couldn’t have been any easier.
